Buncombe County Proclaimed A Breastfeeding Friendly Community

August 7, 2019

The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners and the Asheville City Council have proclaimed Buncombe County to be a Breastfeeding Friendly Community. Work has now started to increase the number of health care provider offices that are Mother-Baby Friendly Clinics, the number of child cares that have achieved the Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Designation and the number of businesses that are designated as  Breastfeeding Friendly Businesses.

MAHEC Family Health Center and MAHEC OB-GYN are Mother-Baby Friendly Clinics.

Verner-East and Eliada Child Development have received designation as a Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care.

The following businesses have achieved designation as Breastfeeding Friendly: Aeroflow Healthcare; Buncombe County WIC and Buncombe County Health and Human Services; Evergreen Community Charter School; Homegrown Babies; Laurel OB-GYN; MAHEC; Mission Hospital.

There is still much work to be done. Please join the journey by supporting and encouraging breastfeeding as the normal way to feed a baby.
